I think this is how you do it. I haven't done these types of equations in a long time.

First you need to take the first equation and get Y by itself.

2x + y = -92
-2x -2x
y= -92 - 2x

Then put that answer for y info y in the second equation.

2x + 2 (-92 - 2x) = -98
2x - 184 -4x = -98
+184 +184
2x - 4x = 86
-2x = 86
/-2 /-2
x=-43

Then to figure out what y is you can put in the vaule of x and figure out what y is. Either equation will work, I am using the first equation.

2(-43) + y = -92
-86 + y = -92
+86 +86
y= -6

So the answers should be Y=-6 and X=-43

To use the substitution method, you want to isolate one of the variables in one of the equations. Looks like it will be easiest to isolate y in the first equation. Subtract 2x from each side and you get:
y= -2x - 92
Use that to replace the y in the second equation:
2x + 2(-2x-92) = -98

Now it is easy to solve this equation for x.

Just pick either variable and solve for it (for example, y in the top problem):
y=2x-92
Then you substitute it for the Y in the other problem (being careful to distribute what's in parenthesis before anything else):
2x+2(2x-92)=-98

Pick one equation.. Solve for either y or x..
Ex.

y=92-2x

Next. Pick other Equation
Ex.

2x+2y=98 Then input in y.
2x+2(92-2)=98

Solve..
2x+184-4=98
2x=-82
x= -41

Thats how..You Can check it but i already did.

So you have:
2x+y=-92
2x+2y=-98

so if you solve the first for y=-2x-92 then you can plug that into the second equation to make it 2x + 2(-2x-92)=-98

so -2x-184=-98
-2x=86
x=-43
y=-6

Solve either equation for one of the variables (I suggest solving the first equation for y). Substite this into the other equation for the variable for which you solved. Solve this equation for its only variable. Plug this answer into the first equation you worked with. You will have an answers for both x and y.

y=92-2x

so
2x-4x+2(92)=-98

you can put it in a calculator from there
