I have a 94 s-10 and it did the same thing. I replaced the ignition control module and haven't had a problem in over 3 years now. It is an OBD-1 system, and you won't get any codes. Use a paper clip and bend it to where it will plug into the place where you hook up the scan tool. Jump across the two right top terminals with the ignition switch off. Now, turn on the switch, and count the flashes. I'll bet you don't get anything but normal codes that are nothing more than enter and exit codes. Be sure you remove this jumper before you try to start the engine. You reset the computer by leaving the negative cable off for about 30 seconds or more. If you will replace the module that's in the distributor, and use some heat sink lube on the bottom of it, you will be back on the road in no time. I see this all the time, and have fixed I don't know at the number of these by replacing this module. They will work fine, heat up and stop working. When they get cool enough, they will work again for a little while then wham-o it does it again. I even carry a spare one in the glove box just in case.
I'm glad to help you out. Good Luck!!!
