I used to work for McAfee providing enterprise support on VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i. So I know it is a great product (it even has an antispyware plug in that is good, but not the best). But stay away from the retail version. I would not wish that stuff on a person I hated. Actually there is not a lot of difference between the major anti-virus companies. most differences are more about style than computer protection. Just remember to make sure you update them. The best antivirus definitions from a few months ago would leave you wide open to attacks today. As for antispyware, I would recommend you buy webroot's Spy Sweeper (http://www.webroot.com/?rc=4929&ac=5190722), there is no better antispyware program out there. But remeber you need more than antivirus and antispyware to protect your system. You at least need to add a firewall. If you don't want to manage a lot of different security applications, you might try CyberDefenderFREE 2.0 it is an all-in-one security suite (found at http://www.cyberdefender.com/products.html). While not the best at any one thing, it is a solid security bundle that is free for home use.

give windows live onecare a shot, I've been using it since the beta program had started, haven't had a virus at all (then again I am participating in the FBLA cyber security exam, so I guess I would have to know about this stuff). Mcafee seriously screwed my computer over, had to do a reformat and clean install to fix it. The home versions of Symantec/Norton aren't that great, but Symantec AV corporate edition is great. For an AIO (all in one), try live one care or norton 360 beta.
