Charleston is beautiful!

How far south? Greenville, SC is very nice. Near the mountains. Lots of shopping. Charleston, SC is also very nice, in a beachy sort of way. Charleston is definitely more the southern lady place. Savannah, GA is also very nice. But if you really want to go south, around the Sarasota, FL area is the best. The beaches (Siesta Beach) is the best. Beautiful soft white sand. Shopping at St. Armands circle is an adventure, and be sure to eat at one of the restaurants on the circle. Southgate is a great place for shopping... Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Saks, and many more. January is a busy time, but compared to the rest of the country, the weather is wonderful. There's nothing neater than to get on a plane in the dreary winter weather, and get off in the land of sunshine, where you never need a coat, and grass is green and flowers are blooming. The only problem is having to go home again.

I live in the south...contrary to what SOME say the south is a very beautiful place...depending on what you want to see...Charleston, Savannah and my personal favorite...Gulf Shores Alabama. If you can be more specific to what kinds of things you like I can give you more places!
