I have a 6 month old 50 inch RCA Scenium widescreen tv that supports HD in 720p and 1080i resolution, but not 1080p. I was wondering if it is worth it to buy a PS3 still with that 1080i resolution as I plan on using it for to watch Blu-Ray dvds as well.

I think so. Really right now you won't notice much difference between 1080i and 1080p because most sources won't really start using 1080p to its full potential for awhile. Plus most games right now don't look any better on 1080p because developers aren't using all of the pixels in a 1080p resolution.

Also CNET has some articles saying that 1080p isn't really that much better than 1080i.

yeah because even though it can play at 1080p it still has great graphics at 1080i.

If it still supports 720p then yeah. PS3 supports 720p.
