Everyone is going to make and error at some point so first of all don't get discouraged...As a former outfielder and as a summer league assistant coach I have found that one of the best ways to improve your game particularly as an outfielder is to get someone that has some time on there hands and have them hit a bucket of balls off the fungo..jus work on getting good jumps on the ball and working on your fundamentals. And also when your team is taking bp play every ball off the bat like its a game situation...a lot of kids jus kinda mess around when they're shagging balls in the outfield during bp. But if you will play each ball off the bat like it is a real play in a game then it will help you tremendously. Also remember that in left field the ball will fade toward the line if it is a right handed batter and if it's a left handed batter the ball will hook. I'm sure you know that already though. Again the best way to get better is to obviously practice. I think that getting someone to hit a bucket of balls to you and mix it up with grounders, flyballs, line drives, some back, and some up, making you work for them will really help your game...Foot work is a big part of playing the outfield so maybe get someone to work with you on that. Anyways hope I could help you a little anyways

The above suggestions are the best way to get better at being an outfielder. As a college outfielder who moved from SS the biggest thing that I have found that helped me was to beat the ball to the spot, dont drift to the ball, that is where most of the mistakes occur. Beating the ball to the spot helps you set your feet up in time to make a play on the ball. Another good tip that many coaches try to instill is if when the ball is hit, if its over the bill of your cap its behind you, in front of the the bill of your cap, its short. But always remember as an outfielder your first step should always be back it is alot easier to come in on a ball then go back on a ball!!.....Hope this helps!!

You need to take a few friends to a local park and have them hit you some flies. Practice makes perfect. Remember when a ball is hit at you don't panic and run in until you can gauge where its going.
Above all don't sweat the small stuff. Everybody makes an error.
Have fun playing the game.

Assuming you are shagging a lot of fly balls for practice, you should work on your speed. Speed can make up for a lot of mistakes in the early stages of becoming a great outfielder. Practice, practice, practice....

One more suggestion: Think about where you are going to throw the ball on a fly ball or on a hit, before the play begins, depending on the game situation. For example, with a runner on first and no out, perhaps on a fly ball you are going to throw to second, but on a single you are going to throw to third.

Besides the obvious which everyone has already touch on (practice).....Positioning will make everything easier. Find a former professional player or college coach that gives private lessons. Take a set of lessons.

I discovered this technique from a experienced softball participant that's now education Fullerton college. you position somewhat of tape around the ball, ideally between the seams. once you practice your throws, positioned you center finger on the tape, and throw the ball. Your purpose is to throw the ball and function the tape spin vertically, like a wheel on a vehicle. This helps your accuracy on your throws. playing capture is a no-brainer, yet efinitely helps your with your accuracy and ability. i wish this helps.

If you have the time to go outside any time or inside at home, try to keep bouncing a ball off the wall and keep catching it it worked for me!.
