If you are just spending 1 day, focus on the downtown area of Vancouver. You can spend time to your own accords at the following popular spots which will cover a full range of possible activities. From scenic walk, biking, shopping, food, drinks, arts, craft and a variety of entertainments.
Stanley Park in morning, China Town lunch, GasTown in afternoon, Granville Island for evening and dinner.

If it is clear enough, I would highly recommend a trip up to Grouse Mtn. It has a beautiful view of the city.

Stanley Park and the Vancouver Aquarium is always a crowd favourite.

If your girlfriend loves shopping, then Robson Street (downtown) is pretty sweet.

Hope this helps.

i know just a place where people love to go in surrey. it's a walking distance from the gateway skytrain station in whalley. i take all my girlfriends there and do all sorts of stuff: play football, frisbee, roll on the grass, smoke weed and watch the skytrains go by. you can also meet some of the most nicest people there in canada. Take her to Tom Binnie Park.

Have you ever been to Steveston? This is in the southwest corner of Richmond, and has some very nice eateries, and scenery to boot.
