Not even that! Most local shops are open at least 8 -12 on Christmas day! Ridiculous.

Remember when shops used to shut Christmas eve and open again a WEEK later! I do and if you forgot the gravy or the brussels you went and borrowed some off the neighbours!

pressure,a bit like keeping up with the jones.ppl have the need to make xmas a big thing .its all so commercialized.ppl just think its about spending money and getting to debt when its all about appreciating what you have..a warm home a loving family and a good meal and yes pressies but money cant buy happiness or love.the simplest things in life r the most fulfilling.think of those who have nothing.so stop shopping and look around and try to see that moneys not everything x

I could never understand that either. I have never done it, as far as I am concerned when Christmas Day gets here if I dont have something then it is tough luck and I dont make a big thing of it. If it is anything really important there is always a small shop open somewhere nearby anyway!

Many people may put off their Christmas shopping until the last minute. I know I often do. =(

Otherwise, it is winter and winter storms could come up during this time, and since they'll have a full house, it's not a bad idea to be prepared.

I might run out of spare shoe trees, cheese wire or beard combs.

In fact it was no real hardship when shops (except corner shops and news agents) closed from the 24th till Jan 2nd. As long as we had bread and milk we were fine.

i think people just want to know they have anything they could possibly want.... for example, what could be worse at christmas than having a craving for pickled onions and having to go without?!? people just want to rest assured that their every whim can be catered for!!
