I'd have an abortion, and to heck with the Church. When a person allows his or her own good sense to be overthrown by an inflexible doctrine, they have given away the most precious thing that God gave us - the capacity to think!

Your question is so interesting that I am tempted to give an answer. (I am a male, Caucasian, 58 years old father of 5 beautiful kids ages 21 all the way to 10 and I am a Bahá'i.) Because I am a male I will assume that my wife had the terrible accident that you mention. Since you say that you are married your husband must have something to say in the matter. It all depends how psychologically strong is the person that was raped. Knowing my wife she would not have an abortion for any reason at all and I would uphold her decision. But if she did want an abortion I would also understand perfectly her decision and would not be opposed to it.

Well, based soley on the criteria you gave, I wouldn't have an abortion unless there were health risks for the baby (due to my age), bc it is against the Catholic religion, and my husband and I could support the baby financially. Also, religious people are supposed to be forgiving and all that so the child should have the chance to be brought up as part of a loving, unbroken family. (I would still have Catholic values if I were calling myself Catholic, even though I were not a stringent Catholic in my day to day life.)
I cannot use my own independent thinking on this bc I don't know what my mental state would be if this were really me; whether I could forgive the rapist, the child, and truly be a loving mother. I guess I maybe I would be able to though bc that's how we survive - by making unbearable things bearable in our own minds.

I think I would vote abortion or adoption. I'm not sure I could deal with the pregnancy reminding me of that imagery for 9 months much less the rest of my life. If I kept the baby I might even have some angst toward the child. But I am also not a woman.

I'm curious why you're asking this question -- and why you're asking it the way you are. In particular, why focus on race?
I don't know what I'd do in this situation. If I lived up to my own moral standards, I'd have the child -- I believe abortion is wrong. But I don't know what I'd experience during and after such trauma; I might find myself too overwhelmed not to give in to the pressure to abort. However, it's hard to see how my conviction of the sacredness of life could be truly ignored. I tend to be stubborn that way.
But I know not everyone is like that, so I'd have compassion on anyone choosing differently.
In the real world I'm 42/male/white/bad catholic. (These facts say almost nothing of importance about me.)

tell her mothers and dads. I actually have a 17 12 months historic daughter. whilst she replaced into 15 just about sixteen I discovered she was putting out with a 22 12 months historic guy w/ a son. So I figured he new what to do although i did no longer opt for him doing it to my daughter. I spoke of because of the fact the police to discover the age of consent in my state sixteen. If some element did ensue sexually it would desire to be seen statutory rape. I advised her and him what I did. It cooled concerns off in a hurry. Z

That is a tough one, but no. A life is a life. The baby had nothing to do with how it was conceived, and it deserves to live and be loved just as much as a planned child. I would have to go through alot of cousneling, but when you carry a life, it changes alot of things, and I think I would bond just as normally with that baby as I would with my other children. Age: 23; Race: White/Hispanic; Religion: Catholic

Common sense would suggest that as a result of rape, incestuous relationship, welfare (health) of the mother in danger, or any abnormal situation which may have caused the pregnancy,
abortion would be the way to go. It will not be fair to the child brought forth in any other way. For the sake for the unborn and the mother, I too would feel abortion be the way to go...however, please enquire with your peers and close associates...

Though it would be a terrible situation, I would not be able to abort. I would just put the baby up for adoption. I truly believe every life has a purpose and it's not the child's fault how it was conceived.
