i have 16 and llamas only spit for a defence on other LLAMAS! not on people! they are nice! we brush them give them baths and we show them! they are the best animal in the world!

I beg to differ with you on the spitting. Having been spit on by llamas at both the riding program that I work with, and on farm calls (I work with a vet), they do spit at humans. I agree though, they can be very nice animals if handled and worked with.

I have alpacas, which is close. Generally if you get spit on by a llama, it's because you didn't pay attention to the "quit pissing me off" body language that the llama was using beforehand...

My neighbor had llamas in with their sheep to protect them from coyotes. They were better than dogs for doing the job!
They were very friendly toward people but would sometimes spit.
