Factor number 100 out: you get 1, 2, 2, 5, 5
Combining this you get 5 pairs:
1*100 = 100
2 * 50 = 100
4 * 25 = 100
5 * 20 = 100
10 * 10 = 100

If the problem insists, you can include these 4 pairs as well:
20 * 5 = 100
25 * 4 = 100
50 * 2 = 100
100 * 1 = 100

Therefore there are 9 multiples which give 100 as a product (9 possible ordered pairs, or 5 pairs without repetition)

I see no pattern other than searching for factors giving 100 as a product

Theres is only one. The only multiple of 100 from 1 to 100 is 100.The multiples of 100 are 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and so on. The pattern is the hundred times table: 1 x 100 = 100, 2 x 100 = 200, 3 x 100 = 300, 4 x 100 = 400, 5 x 100 = 500 and so on.

If you mean factors, there's an easy way to find them if you know the prime numbers.

You just try them one by one, but leave out 1:

Try 2: Can you divide 100 by 2? Yes, you get 50, so 2 is a factor.

Now find the factors of 50.

Try 2: Can you divide 50 by 2? Yes, you get 25, so 2 is a factor TWICE.

Now find the factors of 25.

Try 2: Can you divide 25 by 2? No - (well, you'd get fractions, so that doesn't count).

Try 3: Can you divide 25 by 3? No
Try 5: 25 divided by 5 is 5 - yes. So five is a factor.

Now find the factors of 5.

Since 5 is a prime number, you can stop, but you see that 5 is a prime factor TWICE.

So the prime factors are 2, 2, 5 and 5.

Another way to look at it is 100 = 2 x 2 x 5 x 5.

To get the other factors, you make combinations of the prime factors:

(a) Two at a time:
2 x 2 = 4
2 x 5 = 10
5 x 5 = 25

(b) Three at a time:
2 x 2 x 5 = 20
2 x 5 x 5 = 50
