less important if they're not a wife or have kids in their 30's but their lives are a mess being a wife with kids?

Because they bought the lie and got stuck with a husband and kids that maybe they didn't really want anyway. They see you with a good job and a life that allows you to come and go as you please, and it makes them jealous, so they try to make you feel like crap to make themselves feel better.
Women can be such b!tches sometimes, I swear.......
Next time that happens, look them in the eye and say, "Why should I have to pay for the decisions YOU made?" and see if that doesn't shut them up.......

Because that's what society expects out of women and If they don't fit the role then people automatically feel that they are outcasts or whatever, I personally feel more women should work on who they are before rushing into kids and everything, I know a lot of women who went to college and never had a career after that, they just had kids, what happened to women fulfilling dreams, having a career and experiencing life and working on who they are, some women cant even have kids, does that mean she's meaningless to society, no, that's why you cant invest everything you are into the mold people set up for us.

One word. Jealousy! It goes both ways really. Married SAHMs miss being free and working and being single and partying and Single working women are tired of partying and want to find the right man to settle down and have a family before it gets to late. It is the old its greener on the other side of the fence.

I have to say I'm a wife and a mom and I have never done that to woman. Everyone has the right to chose what they want to do with their life.

Because they have taken society's expected path, many times having had no other option presented to them or mocked if it was, and they need to reassure themselves that it was the right choice and that any other is wrong in order to cover up their despair.

For some reason that escapes me, women are so much more catty, so much more viscious toward each other... I don't know.
The bottom line is, as long as you are happy with yourself, that is all that matters!
