last year i got her a family ring. that was like the best idea i ever had but unfortunately now its been used up. she doesn't care much for nonsentimental jewelry or clothes. she doesn't cook so that rules out like appliances and stuff. she doesn't listen to music or anything like that. mostly all she does outside of work is play with the kids. i only have a couple days left to buy something and i'm stuck. does anybody have any ideas? she likes taking family photos, is there anything really cool that can be bought for a digital camera that she might like?

thanks guys these are good suggestions. i'm trying to stay away from the gift certificates but you never know, i might have to settle. i can't really do the spa or the luncheon things because she lives 5 hours away so i can't really just pop over to lunch or to babysit lol. but thanks.

how about a necklace saying mom or a locket on a necklace with a photo of something she loves such as you, a flower or something else. if these fail why dont you take her out for a massage and pedicure.
you could also buy a scrapbook and make up a couple of pages leaving room for photos and journalling.
family portraits that are recent and have been blown up work well.
for digital cameras try a docking station so she print her own photos in the convenience of her own house. they are very practical and affordable.
good luck. MERRY CHRISTMAS. hope i helped somehow.

How about a "gift certificate" for a monthly luncheon with you? As a busy mom, the *very best* gifts I receive from my kids either are something I've mentioned during the year but forgot about or a gift of their time and effort. If the kitchen needs organizing, feet need rubbing, or something along those lines. Or how about buying her a spot in a photography class?

Good luck on this adventure!

well a couple things to consider....does she print the pictures or store them on her computer or a disc? If she prints them....a variety of frames would be nice. So she can proudly display her work and possibly a photo album or scrapbooking supplies and even ink cartridges for her printer and good photo paper. If she likes to keep them on disc, then a pack of DVDrs and a DVD player or a digital photo frame so she can play them on there. If she takes pics and stores them but keeps them on her computer, you may want to come to her house before Christmas and back them up on DVDs or CDs so she doesn't lose them if her computer crashes.

Otherwise, if the whole family is there on Christmas. Make sure you take the photos of her with all the kids. Usually the one that likes to take the photos is never in them. Be sure to get a good one of her and all the kids and get it printed up and put into a nice frame.

Photoshop...so she can edit them and make them really awesome.

SInce she likes to take pictures...maybe you could gather up some of her best and then get her started on a new hobby. Scrapbooking so that she can show her works of art in a beautiful way.

Get her a good photo printer. Extra memory cards for her camera.

A photography class or a book about it, so she can get even better.

Not camera related, but my Mom was telling me a few years ago, how when her and my father had their first anniversary, he gave her a stuffed cat. That night the dog chewed it up. It was her first stuffed animal and they did not have money to replace it.

I went to build-a-bear and got her a cat and a wonderful outfit for it. She now has a closet of clothing for it (She is over 80). She was thrilled that I actually listened to her when she talked and got her the stuffed animal.

Are you artistic at all. Last year I took pictures of all of the kids my mom has loved through the years, there are a lot of them. Scanned them into the computer and printed them on iron on paper and put them on canvas. I got a large piece of fleece, the kind they use for blankets and sewed them all on. She loved it so much, every time she feels bad about herself she sits under it, she says she can feel the love. That year it was voted that my gift was the last one she got to open. She cried like a baby. It actually only took a few hours to put together and was the best gift I have ever given. I will never be able to top it. Good luck, and Merry Christmas.

What do you get her? How about a dose of reality? Any mom who is hard to buy for is either arrogant, conceited or simply has no understanding of the true idea of what it means to give a gift out of love and kindness. Try something so simple, basic, as to say, "Mom, this is just a small gift out of my appreciation for you".
If she rejects it then, well...she has no concept of what a gift really is, does she? And if that is the case, I feel truly sorry for you. I hope you turn out better. Good luck

Okay so you say she loves to play with the kids. Well how about something nice. Like a really nice playset for the outdoors. I know that it wouldnt be much of a gift to her as the kids but she will enjoy watching the (grand)kids play and interact with each other. Also if it has a swing or something she could enjoy playing with them by pushing them on the swing or catch them as they come down the slide.
I know its going to be a strech on money for it. But i think she would enjoy it. Merry Christmas!

Is there enough time left for you to oraganise a portrait sitting of all the family as a surprise gift to your mum, if so this might be the way to go (depending on finances too, their not cheap) it's worth while to look into anyway. And all the best for Christmas from Oz.

Whenever I have Hard people to buy for I find out the year they graduated from High School and get them a few magazines from that same year (ebay), that might be of interest to them. The idea has always been a hit, and it's fun to peek through them too before they are given. Especially the old ads!

Have each of the children supply pictures of her with the grandchildren and each of your pictures that might be "special". Thos pictures should be placed in a "MEMORY ALBUM". Each of you (the children) should then write something that you remember most about growing up near the pictures. NO matter what happens to any of you, she will always have that reminder of "The Good Old Days". This would be very special to my wife and I. Make sure that you have additional room to add pictures for the next generation and the next several years. Have a GrEaT HoLiDaY SeASoN!
