YOU HAVE TO START AT A 4 YEAR COLLEGE BECAUSE MOST COMMUNITY COLLEGES DON'T OFFER THE COURSES THAT YOU NEED. I'M NOT A PHARMACY MAJOR BUT I GO TO XAVIER UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA WHICH IS LIKE ONE OF THE NUMBER ONE PHARMACY SCOOLS IN THE NATION AND DOCTOR OF PHARMACY DEGREE IS A 6 YEAR PROCESS AND COULD BE MORE IF YOU DON'T HANDLE THINGS CORRECTLY. THE FIRST TWO YEARS YOU ARE CONSIDERED PRE-PHARMACY AND YOU ARE TAKING A LOT OF PREREQS THAT YOU NEED TO GET IN. YOU APPLY FOR PHARMACY SCHOOL YOUR 2ND YEAR AND ACCEPTANCE LETTERS GO OUT AT THE END OF THAT YEAR. THE NEXT 4 YEARS ARE STRICTLY PHARMACY SCHOOL. NO COMMUNITY COLLEGE OFFERS A DOCTOR OF PHARMACY DEGREE. THEY ONLY OFFER PHARMACY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION/DEGREE PROGRAMS. IF YOU WANT TO BE A PHARMACIST, YOU CAN DO YOUR FIRST TWO YEARS AT NEARLY ANY 4 YEAR COLLEGE BUT IT'S BEST IF YOU DO IT AT A SCHOOL THAT ALREADY HAS A PHARMACY SCHOOL BECAUSE YOUR CHANCES OF GETTING IN ARE BETTER AND ALL OF YOUR CREDITS WILL BE ACCEPTED. THERE IS A GIRL IN ONE OF MY CLASSES WHO CAME FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW ORLEANS (UNO) AS A PRE-PHARMACY MAJOR AND XAVIER DIDN'T ACCEPT HALF OF HER SCIENCE CREDITS SO SHE HAS TO RETAKE THEM AT XAVIER BEFORE SHE CAN BE ACCEPTED. SHE ALWAYS SAYS THAT SHE WISHES SHE WOULD HAVE STARTED OUT AT XAVIER BECAUSE SHE WOULDN'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH ALL OF THAT IF SHE KNEW. HOPE THIS HELPED!

Definitely only a four year college and typically a good one at that. Some community colleges might say they have programs for pharmaceutical degrees but they are usually just some form of programs to work as some form of 'tech' and not an actual pharmacist.

To become a pharmacist, you need to get a PharmD, and only regular Universities offer that degree. A small number of students take all their prereqs at a community and successfully get accepted.
