It will be quite difficult to define the difference between a river and it's tributaries, i.e. streams, brooks, becks, etc.
What do you go by?
Is it flow volume, flow speed, width or all or any of these?
Even if you had a precise definition it would be constantly changing with the rainfall, seasons, etc.
