Cool name, cool style, and can actually play. This makes him a contender

Contender. The guy's just 21. Give him time to develop and mature. It takes years to be a good, mature player. I'm not sure that he's got a serious attitude problem. Maybe he's just an overly excited kid who's just trying to prove himself out there. Being such a young guy playing for the big-leauges gives him the jitters also. The press in NY isn't exactly easy on the players, either. That locker room incident? Probably that's part of the rookie hazing thing. Hopefully the Mets don't give up on him and trade him away. He's got raw talent and he's shown it on the field. All he needs is time. I would be quite surprised if he doesn't blossom into a good player.

As a non-Mets fan, i visit't communicate for any small tale that escaped the nationwide headlines so some distance as his habit replaced into in contact. even with the undeniable fact that, I keep in mind that purely very last season there have been commerce rumors about the Mets figuring out to purchase Barry Zito, and the participant gumming up the works replaced into none except Lastings Milledge. He ought to have fetched any type of favourite individual veteran gamers a season in the past. to be certain him dealt for 2 very regularly occurring gamers is virtually a tragedy. Minaya more effective wish for easily one of two issues: both an instantaneous go back to the playoffs next season, or the entire fall down of Milledge's occupation.

I would say contender. He's demonstrated some great skill along with still untried potential, but still has many bugs to work out,as shown in the Mets' series at Fenway (go Red Sox!)this past summer when he "played" left field. A blind man probably would have played better. I don't remember, but I don't think he hit well in that series either. But he's still young and everybody needs time. He'll be good.

The Mets think he is the real deal. He is not full of himself, he was just a rookie who was excited about being in the big leagues. Imagine being 21, getting out of the minors and hitting a home run in New York before 45,000 screaming fans. Anyone would be pumped up. Next year he can act cool about it.
Hazing rookies by veteran ballplayers is not uncommon and does not prove anything about the rookie. The Padres make their rookies in September, when there are several of them, wear dresses and makeup when going through an airport. Just stealing stuff out of a locker seems a lot tamer than that.

I cant say for sure but he showed signs of being a good outfielder offensively he needs to work on his defense and attitude. I hope he does not ruin the great clubhouse the mets have that is what makes this team so great. He showed that he could challenge for a spot on the roster for left field but i think he still needs work. My answer is some where in the middle.

contender -- you'd better believe it.
You've gotta realize, stars get old and retire. Who's going to take over as baseball's elitists when this happens? It's people like this guy. Most of these 1st and 2nd rounders become the stars of the MLB, but they take years to mature. But they have talent.
And maybe it doesn't happen for awhile... so what? He's only 21 years old. You can't compare him to Ryan Howard, who's 27!! (That's the average age for peaking in baseball by the way)

too early yet to tell.......last year he showed signs of both contending and pretending.
i dont worry much about the rap he got for having an attitude and not getting along in the clubhouse......most of those stories were blown way out of proportion. there is however lots of room for maturity on his part.
his name is bandied about in a lot of trade rumors this off season.....i for one hope he isnt dealt, id like to see him get a chance to become an all-star in a mets uniform.
