Harry Potter number 5? What a huuuuuge book!
Harry has a really horrible Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher so he makes up a army called Dumbledores Army to teach students spells. Harry goes to the Demartment of Mysterys at the Ministry of Magic to go and resuse his god-father Sirius. I don't want to give the end away but I will if you want.

Nobody believes Harry and Dumbledore that Voldemort is truly back.
A horrible new teacher comes to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts and torments Harry.
Snape tries to teach Harry Occlumency (where his mind can't be read by Voldemort) because it's discovered that Harry has dreams of what Voldemort is doing and feeling.
Voldemort discovers this attachment of his thoughts with Harry, and uses it to lure Harry to the Ministry of Magic (Harry wasn't able to master Occlumency, otherwise this wouldn't have worked).
At the ministry of magic there was a room full of prophesies, and Voldemort needed Harry to get the prophecy off the shelf so he could hear what it says (he was hoping there would be something in it on how to kill Harry/remedy the situation of the power he left Harry when he tried to kill him the first time).
A battle ensues at the ministry and Sirius falls through a curtain (insinuating that he is dead because there was nothing behind the curtain, but he definitely disappeared) although no one knows for sure.
Dumbledore and Harry beat off Voldemort for the time being, but enough people have now seen him alive for the word to be widespread that yes, he really is back.

Harry is having dreams from Voldemort's mind and in the end, Voldemort ends up manipulating him to do a job. But, it doesn't work out and someone close to Harry gets killed in the process. READ THE BOOK!!! I ADVISE ALL THE HARRY POTTER BOOKS!!!

new dark arts teacher who is hired by ministry so she sucks. harry opend dumbledore's army-a secret meeting where students learn the real dark arts to fight off voldemort and help hogwars. called that because voldemort is building an army of his death eaters too. harry gets his first kiss with cho who dumps him eventually because she thinks he like hermoine. but hermoine and ron actually like each other. voldemort "reads" harry's mind and harry can read his and harry learns occlyumnecy form snape to protect his thought from vodlemort. he also learns about his parent's past a little. harry and voldemort fight. and the prophecy of hte guy who is gonna kill voldemort is destroyed and sirius dies. the propechy was vague becuase it meant the harry could be voldemorts enemy or nevil. dumbledore tells him that there is no relevance to the prophecy becuase harry was the chosen one when he was attacked that night as a baby and it is his job to save the magic world from evil.

Well, no one believes Harry and Dumbledore when they say Voldemort's returned. The Ministry is afraid Dumbledore is building an army of his students to battle the Ministry (the paranoia of Fudge), and send in a new teacher, who is given almost unlimited authority to do what she will to keep the "uprising" from occurring. Not to mention she's a horrid old bat, who makes Harry slice his own hand open in detention.

i wrote this to someone else's question.. check my best answers, i also answered one for book #6:
a lot of stuff going on... but i'll give it a whirl. haven't read in awhile, so i'll see what i remember:
it starts with harry in privet drive... he and dudley get attacked by Dementors! harry defends them, and of course gets a letter saying he did magic outside of school, but this time it says he is gonna get Expelled, and that someone from the ministry would come there soon and break his wand! so he tries to leave, but gets letters from dumbledore saying to stay put... he then gets a letter saying instead of being expelled, he was going to have to go to Trial.
he goes to the burrow, and stays w/ the weasleys. they find out that the order of the phoenix headquarters is at Sirius' house. the kids try to eavesdrop and hear that there may be a "secret weapon" that voldemort is trying to use, and that harry may be part of it, etc. they go to sirius' house, and try to get rid of any Dark objects... harry is getting extremely annoyed/angry w/ dumbledore because he feels that he is being ignored by D.
they go to school... harry is told that he needs to learn Occlumency w/ Snape, which is learning how to block someone from reading his mind. he has a connection w/ voldemort ever since the scar.... harry and snape don't get along, and snape refuses to teach harry anymore after a huge fight. harry has a dream that he is a snake, that finds mr. weasley and BITES him! blood spurting everywhere. he wakes up, tells D, and they find that the dream was Real, and that harry was in the mind of the snake. he feels as though he is being used for the Dark side, and tries to run away, but they don't let him. harry is starting to feel extremely misunderstood and unhappy....
eventually voldemort realizes that harry can read his mood/have visions, and so V tricks harry into thinking that they caught Sirius. harry tries to get the gang to go the ministry of magic and find sirius.. everyone thinks he's crazy and that harry shouldn't have seen these visions if he had learned occlumency. harry doesn't care, forces them to go. they find out that it was a trick, all the death eaters are there. they get him to pick up a Prophesy that was made about him, and that is what voldemort wanted. it gets broken in the fight, and the only thing that saves harry is dumbledore and some of the order. but sirius dies , is killed by Bellatrix.
finally harry learns that the prophesy was made by professor trelawny to dumbledore, than a boy born at certain time to certain parents would be marked as voldemort's equal, and neither could live while the other lived. this could have meant neville or harry, but V had chosen harry and the rest is history. dumbledore also tells harry that he was avoiding him, because he was afraid V would be using harry's connection to do something bad. D also apologizes for a lot of things, and admits it was his fault from the start...he should have told harry from the beginning all the stuff about snape and his father, and about voldemort and harry having to kill one another.... but he kept putting it off.. yadayadayada....
oh yeah, and there's a horrible new Defense teacher, professor Umbridge. she looks like a frog, and is short and mean. she picks on harry, and makes his life living hell. she is just like fudge, trying to blame harry for making up stories about V being back.
there's a lot more, but i think that is the gist of the story

harry shares first kiss with cho chang thats the best bit. harry gets wierd lessons with snape. ginny becomes a slut. they have a gay dada teacher. harry starts a club for dada and gets caut by gay teacher. they all go to minestry of magic to save sirius who isnt there anyway cos harry was having wierd visions of the bad guy torturing sirius. harry has a tantrum in dumbledores office at the end thats about it.
oh yer and sirius dies which is pretty important

Harry constantly has dreams, but it turns out he's being manipulated by Voldemort, while an inquisitor is taking over Hogwarts. Later, there is a big battle and somebody close to him dies.

Harry gets rescued from the dursley's. Harry gets angry and screams and ron and hermione for them not telling him anything. Sirius dies. That's pretty much all that goes on. Oh yeah, and voldemort comes back
