Well, first I should state that you need to pay for the songs you download. You can do this at emusic.com where you'll also get 25 free downloads when you register.

Here are a few recommendations:
- "Omission" by John Frusciante - He is the guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He's also a good solo artist.
- "Helicopter" by Bloc Party - A fun upbeat alternative rock song.
- "Life in a Glass House" by Radiohead - Some sort of an alternative rock/jazz song. It grows slowly on you. I love it but it really depends on your taste.
- "I've Got Big Balls" by AC/DC - I don't remember when I heard this song for the first time but it's a fun song I like listening to.
- "Get Up" by Badmarsh & Shri - I have no idea in what language they speak in that song when they're not speaking English but it's an odd song. Some sort of an alternative party song.
- "Joints and Jam" by the Black Eyed Peas - This one's from '98 before the Black Eyed Peas were as big as they are today. I think Fergie was not included back then also. Anyway, it's sort of a groove song with a slight sampling from Grease.
- "Map of Your Head" by Muse - This is my favourite band. It's an excellent UK alternative rock band. I wonder how famous, if at all, they are in the US.
- "This is Such a Pity" by Weezer - Alternative rock (once again). I love it. That's a strong one.
- "The First of the Gang to Die" by Morrissey - Morrissey was the lead singer of The Smiths. This excellent song is taken from his great comeback album from 2004.
- "Polyester" by Maximilian Hecker - He's some German dude (no worry, he sings in English). I don't know how to define this but it sounds beautiful (even though the song ends with a strange repeat of the sentence "I'm using gloves").
- "In the Walls" by Stellastarr* - It's a NY band but they sound a lot like the Pixies here and there. It's taken from their great debut self-titled album.

Well, I'm sure I could give you a lot more recommendations but if I continue writing them I'll never get to submitting my answer :-)
