The prime factors of 12 are 2 and 3.
As 12 is an even number - it ends in 2. then it will divide by 2
So 2 ) 12
2 ) 6
3 ) 3

You will notice that the numbers to the left of the curved bracket are only 2 or 3 . Method is to divide by 2 the lowest prime number until the answer will not divide by 2. Then you use the next prime number which is 3. and you keep doing this division until the final answer is one (1).
N.B. a prime number is a number which will only divide by itself or one.
2,3,5,7,11,13,17,19,23,29 . are the prime numbers up to 30. They do not appear as answers in any multiplication of smaller numbers.
