Ok so here's the deal. I live at home in a tiny little town where there is absolutely nothing to do. I'm in my second year at a community college about half an hour away; I drive back and forth every day. I haven't been able to make friends there because there are no clubs that interest me and I'm not athletic at all, plus I don't live in the dorms. Even if I did meet people I'd have to drive half an hour if I ever wanted to hang out. So that's the first part of the problem. The second part of the problem is that there are two groups of people in the town where I live: old people and high schoolers, neither of which I have any interest in spending too much time with. I work in a nursing home, so I already spend enough time with the elderly, and the high schoolers are all friends of my sister's, and it would just be weird to hang out with her group. I want to find friends of my own but I don't know how or where!!

Looks like you and I are in the same boat. I moved to the city I live in now, and I know NO ONE. All I do is work. I'm out of school and I am the youngest person at my job. Everyone else is 30+ and I'm only 22. I haven't been around anyone my age in a while(except my fiance, of course!). But sometimes you just need a friend.

Are there any groups that you could join at your college. Community theater is a good place to meet people, even if you aren't into acting there are a lot of jobs there that don't require a lot of talent. Try looking for opportunities to volunteer your time, not only will you meet new people you will also be helping people and in the process making yourself feel good.

Why not organize a study group for one of your classes, or strike up a conversation with someone in your class who it seems may have similar interests?

Otherwise, there are always social sites like MySpace where you can find people in your area.

Hmmm...well maybe since clubs don't interest you and you aren't athletic, maybe there is something musical that interests you, something musical you could get involved in. in the meantime, maybe you could make online friends. online friends make life so much easier =]
