The bourgeois operate and manage the capital of the system. They are not necessarily the landed money, but instead the middle class and upwardly mobile class. They strive to and have the abilty to reach the monied classes, often resulting in comically affected pretenses at being rich.

The proletariat are the extremely poor underclass, the exploited. They provide the manual and unskilled labor which the bourgeois use to expand their and their boss's wealth. They are often uneducated and have no chance at obtaining any wealth or land.

The proletariat are the so-called working class. The bourgeois are the so-called monied class. It was a fancy way for communists to say "rich versus poor."

Bourgeois = comfortable middle and upper-middle class, business owners, etc.

Proletariat = common working person. Also, along with liberal intelligensia, the class stupid enough to buy the communist's garbage.
