I don't think there is any real point to the thumbs down for sure. It might be more of a real indicator of something if people lost a point for every thumbs down they give. Then people might give thumbs down only with some thought. It does seem rather meaningless when you read a question that has twenty or thirty answers and someone has given every answer a thumbs down. I think that the thumbs up still have some meaning.

I think the point is the satisfaction one gets when an answer either really hits the spot and then gets a thumbs up, or when you really think that the person is a f***head and it is satisfying to be able to give the answer a thumbs down

Thumbs Up ----
1)Means that you have a good post
2)Means that people agree with you
3)Means that your not being a jerk and your giving your time to give meaningful answers or questions
4)Means that your being praised on what you answered and/or asked
5)The person giving the thumbs up just wants to be nice ---Very Nice People
Thumbs Down ----
1)The person is a real jerk
2)The person is mean and wants you to feel bad as his/her own personal joy and sheer pleasure
3)Possibly for something you said or did wrong towards another person -- including the person giving the "thumbs down"
4)Likes having people suffer for nothing they did wrong --- having them to think back on what they did, quote on quote --- "Wrong"

i dont know but it makes me mad when people give me thumbs down. (im also aware that people are going to give me a thumbs down because i said this....)

Thumbs up and Thumbs down is just something everyone understands, kids, adults, everyone. Thumbs up is like, good job, yes, and Thumbs down is negative.
