10 months ago someone asked about a deer with gills. I saw the show he referred to with the deer-like animal and it certainly was not any of the animals described in the previous question's responses! It also was not a photograph, but on film. It did not look like a forgery nor did it seem to be a show had the budget to produce this type of hoax. Though I admit, I cannot be certain. Also it is proven that all vertebrates go through a stage of development in the womb where they do develop gills or at least slits that replace true functional gills. Why is it such a stretch for a mammal to retain them?

I believe I saw it on the discovery channel back when it was good, but while searching about this others have claimed that it was a less credible source such as Sightings, or Beyond Belief.

Oh you must be referring to the "mutant swamp deer".
(just kidding)
There are many anomalies & defects that can occur in the womb. So nothing would surprise me. But I never heard of the gilled deer.

It would be possible for a defect to cause the mammal to be born with gills, but I would not expect the mammal to live long. It would probably dead at birth. Also, the gills would probably not work if the animal did live.

If you saw the show, then what was it called? Let the other people see the evidence that you are providing witness to. There are lots of shows, websites, and newspapers that delight in making odd claims and use whatever technology available to make it seem like these claims are true. Gets more viewers and readers.

it is a stretch because the gill slits, better called pharyngeal pouches, which are present in mammalian embryos develop into the facial features of mammals.
