Don't Americans feel ashamed by the fact that the only thing that prevents civil war is the right to bear arms

I am from the UK and would get an automatic 5 year sentence for a gun and 4 for carrying a knife with a 5 inch blade or more.

What a bunch of nonsense. Gun ownership has nothing to do with why there is no civil war in this country. Hell, who would the sides be? Left vs Right? Cons vs Libs? White vs non white? The premise you base this on is totally wrong. It seems the only people wanting civil war, and it sounds like you and your bad a** buds are the ones advocating it, are gun owners. Millions of Americans own guns and the thought of civil war never enters their thoughts.

How does bearing arms prevent civil war? We had a civil war even with the right to bare arms. After this destructive conflict we as Americans decided to never again fight against each other. Being an American is now a badge an honor worn by the citizens of our country. I hope all nations can be as proud of their country as I am of mine.

Section 17. A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. This is a cut & paste of the entire section. Unless you belong to a militia, you do not have the "right" to have arms. It's a privilege & like any privilege, If you abuse it, you should loose it. As far as preventing a civil war, Paris Hilton & Brittney Spears are leading that effort so we can all sleep better at night.

Cite your source... I'm an American, and that is NOT the only thing that prevents civil war. We've had the right to keep and bear arms from the time the Constitution was written. It certainly didn't do much to prevent the civil war that DID happen, did it?

Possibly but not by 1860. The onus for the war probably falls on Martin Van Buren, who allowed the entire situation to fester and solidify into factional hatred.

I don't really know what you are talking about...are you trying to say that Americans won't have a civil war because we know that most people are armed? If it hasn't stopped us from going to war with other (obviously armed) countries, then why would it stop us from going to war with ourselves? But I don't see why you think there is going to be an American Civil War...
