You mean the loofah? I replace mine every month. I just dont want build up being washed over my body every day. So I dont let it go past a month. You figure thats at least 30 washings!

they are called loofas. Mine normally fall aprt, but I get the cheap ones. And if you get the cheap ones you can replace them more often. I guess that can get germy. I'd say as often as a toothbrush...every 3 months

Stock up on them and switch them at least once a month.. Just make sure you rinse them after you use them with hot water each time..

well, if it smells like old rugs, it has mildew, so, then you should replace it immediatly.
i think, going after it's smell and looks (and touch, yuk) you should exchange it when you feel it' sready for an exchange.
if you keep it clean and dry and hot (for drying ) and not in a closed space (box) they stay for ever (sadly, mine's a veteran and looks like new -.-)

I change my poufie once a month, unless for some reason it gets really dirty or dropped somewhere it shouldn't be.
