The NBA and NFL keep college basketball and football, respectively, relevant by requiring attendance prior to joining their leagues. This is a recent NBA rule following a spate of high school players being high draft picks. That became a problem for the above reason, and it left the NBA to teach the basics to these young players while investing large sums of money. In MLB, more than one third of the draft picks are high school players. MLB would prefer that they learn in the minor leagues vice college, at minor league salaries, for the most part. NFL Europe, the AFL, and the new NBDL do not compare to minor league baseball in popularity, either. Thus a system is set up, in essence, in direct competition for college aged baseball players. This waters down the talent level in the college system. That said, some college baseball programs are very popular with their fans, but college baseball as a whole isn't as followed as football or basketball.

Because the season is much shorter; also, the college baseball season begins as Major League baseball is beginning, and fans prefer professional baseball; because there is just not the fan base for college baseball as there is for college football and basketball; The money taken in by the colleges is far less than in basketball and football which means that TV is not interested in airing the games.

Because The NBA(basketball) and the NFL(football) have NO minor league to develope players. The players they need come from the colleges and universities. MLB(baseball) HAS a minor league and this is where the best future players are playing. Only a very small percentage of college baseball players will play pro ball.

The minor leagues. Unlike football and basketball, which use college as their minor league system, baseball has a viable minor league system. This means that many of the best baseball players never play in college, somewhat rare in the NBA and almost unheard of in the NFL. Most college baseball players then spend a period of time in the minors where people lose track of them before they hit the major leagues.

For basketball and football, most of the best players out of high school go to college, so the caliber of play is high. In baseball, most of the best high school players get drafted and sign to play in the minor leagues right out of high school, so the college baseball system is a bit diluted and the level of play isn't as high.
