We are moving into North Atlanta area and I was wondering what Internet/Cable I should go with. I've researched and Comcasts 8mbps service is the fastest I've found. The price also goes down about $20 if you subscribe to their cable, which I'm also questioning. I really want HD/DVR, but is their service worth the price? In total, it would be around $120-$150 a month depending on package, etc. The most important thing to me is the fastest internet possible for a decent price, but I also would like an HD/DVR without to hefty a price tag. Any suggestions?

8 mbps? 54 mbps (which I KNOW is WRONG-- that's your wireless-G connect speed!!)??

Forget all of that.

Even if you get 8 mbps (or 54, or 54 million) between you and the cable TV office, you can rest assured that the fiber link to your neighborhood won't use more than 1/2 mbps (512). You will share an uplink somewhere, no matter who you go with.

Even if you really do get 8 mbps all the way to Comcast's uplink (not gonna happen) then you will find out that the Internet itself is a slow place.

So, it would be like having a Ford GT40 that finds that there are stop signs on every intersection, and a 45 mph speed limit, and tons of stop and go traffic.

I've run 50-person offices on a genuine 512 connection, even including email server, remote users and allowing streaming music!! No one ever complained about that speed. I run my current office on 256 up, 1024 down, and have 3 email servers, etc on that line.

Last, Comcast stinks as an ISP. I don't know who is "good" in Atlanta (I'd go to some local computer stores and ask), but Comcast is overpriced, has bad customer service, and doesn't even have static IPs available for me here!!!

Is Comcast the only cable provider in Atlanta? If so, that stinks, for 8Mbps is slow. I have Cox cable, and their lowest priced broadband, and have 54Mbps. That's considered slow by some people.

Lucee has no idea what she's talking about. She doesn't have a 54Mbs Internet connection, no cable operator does (she's looking at her WiFi speed). On most cable systems 8Mbs is the top tier package. About the only thing faster is Verizon's FIOS service, which at this time is of limited availability.
