Invasion of the Body Snatchers (I like the 70s version with Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, and Leonard Nimoy)

Alien (just one gory scene...the rest is heavy on suspense)

The Others (a non-violent ghost story with a twist)

The Frighteners (an underrated offbeat thriller starring Michael J. Fox and directed by Peter Jackson)

The Wicker Man (the original...I haven't seen the remake)

The original "Halloween" (John Carpenter - 1978) with Jamie Lee Curtis is one I always recommend for sleep-overs. It's WAY better than the Rob Zombie remake. Another one of his that's truly scary is his "The Thing" starring Kurt Russell.

Try Duel. No gore, but lots of suspense as a lone driver tries to make it home through the California desert when he accidentally angers the driver of the scariest looking semi you ever saw. Their cat-and-mouse game will have you on the edge of your seat as you try to figure out who the truck driver is and why he's doing this. I won't tell you who wins. If you have ever had a semi tailgate you, this one will make you plenty nervous.

The Haunting...the original made in 1963. This is a good movie with a good plot and excellent acting. There is no gore and the suspense is maddening.
