Hot glue is pretty good for that sort of thing. It's fast, fairly strong, and you can get a small craft gun and a few sticks of glue for a buck or two at a dollar store.

You can use just a permanent "white glue" (Elmers regular glue, a white glue "for fabric" --including "tacky" glues, or the very strong one mentioned Jewel It or also GemTac), but most of those will need to be clamped at least a bit while drying (with a clothespin or under a book, etc.) if you don't also use a bit of hot glue at the same time for instant grab.
If you use those together, just put the white glue where you want the strongest long-term hold, then add dots or bits of hot glue in-between and press the parts together.
(Btw, all those glues will create a "hard" area where they dry, so if you don't want that on the back side, spread the glue(s) out and/or don't clamp *too* hard.)

A drop of hot glue will get it to stick right now but it is brittle and even the hot glue for fabric can crack so the item must be for decoration only and not for loving on by a toddler. I like to use a drop of hot glue to make it stick then use a few drops of Aleene"s Jewel it glue. Jewel It glue doesn't yellow, is washable and dries clear even thoough it has a bluish look when wet. The hot glue holds till the Jewel It dries.

I would try a hot glue gun..and if that doesn't work try Aleenes Tacky glue..its in a goldish brown or purple bottle depending on where you get ti from...its a really thick glue and you need ot hold it to help it setup but its very good and dries clear.
