This question could take you back eons ,,,,, The native Americans were here prior to the advent of the white man ,,,, They are or were indigenous to the land ,,,, If any one could be credited with the first finding of the American continent it would be their ancestors which dates back to prehistoric time when man traveled from the European continent to the Americas over the land bridge that is now the Altuion Islands today ,,,, The Native American evolved from the first men that arrived in North America eons ago ,,,,,

I can trace my lineage back 15 thousand years. My people are of what you call America. We originally lived in caves and migrated across the country. Whites are trying to say we came across a bridge between Russia and Canada. However, our learnings tell us we are of the land, our Spiritual and Cultural practises are tied to the land and Columbus was only acting on behalf of the crown. He was paid to explore and pillage and nothing more. He is a discoverer for whites. To us, he is just another invader. American Indians as you call us, are the original inhabitants of this Sacred land. Anyone who tells you different is confuse, misinformed, working on their own agenda, lying or just plain wrong.

it's not a stupid question. don't listen to the other people.

people think the native americans came to north america from russia, it's not proven though. so you could say they "discovered" america, but discovery is all relative. technically if there is someone living somewhere then you can't say you discovered it. so if they were the first ones there, then yea they discovered it. like i said it all depends on the way you look at it.

there was a viking colony in north america before christopher columbus and there is some writtings that say a catholic monk made it to north america before him. so it's not an easy question to answer.

the easiest way to look at it is that before christopher columbus america wasn't important. he made it important and i guess in that sense discovered it for the world.

No they did not discover America. They are called natives because they lived there originally.

the first humans on what became america were nomadic and they wandered here over the Berengia land bridge. and thru canada. (nomadic means that they wandered in search of food.) they stayed after they figured out how to farm. (it made them more settled-having food) these people stayed in later known as "america" and these people were discovered by christopher columbus and he called them indians bc he thought he had landed in india.

Good question..we need to know too....However, it does not make much difference who came first and who followed.... We are all immigrants...one kind or the other....all ....from the spirits into being....
