I have said this on here many times before, the power supply is one of the least understood components of the computer, and as a result people tend to shortchange their power supply, which is not a good idea. For just a standard email and surf the net, word processing type of computer, really 350W will be adequate, but for a gaming computer or other high performance machine, at least 500W is necessary.
But there is more to it than that. Make sure you get one from a good quality company, else it may die within months. Look for one with Active PFC, and also look for one with a fairly high efficiency. Also, again for a gaming computer look for one with at least 2 12V rails, with at least 18A on each rail. Lastly, modular cabling is a nice feature that can help with clutter inside the case. If you need further advice, feel free to email me and I can make some suggestions on specific supplies.

The higher the Wattage the more accessories it will support. (Like multiple hard drives, CD/DVD player/burners, floppy dirives etc.)
You never know what you may want to put in sometime in the future.
A 250 watt supply used to be adaquate now most are 300-350 watts If you can afford one and are planning to expand/update the computer at sometime in the future I recommend 400 watts.

The Dell XPS high-end machines have a huge 1kw power supply! With one of those you could probably have enough over to roast a turkey, and the streetlamps will go dim when you turn on your PC lol...
If you never, ever want to worry about your power again, go huge...... 600w or more.
DC :)

Depending on what you are going to have in it I would recommend a minimum of a 350w power supply but I would go with a 400w. This will leave room for expansion.

Processor, number of drives, and add-on's all have to have sufficient amount of power available. I used to use a 350watt. Since upgrading to Athlon 64 I bumped it up to 500watt unit. Good Luck! :-)=
