What is different about writing for school and writing for work?

I'm not sure I would agree that academic writing is qualitative and business is quantitative (those are actually research method and types of data - both are used in both forms of writing). Academic writing is based on documenting and supporting an argument with citaition (this is generally not done in busness writing). Business writing servers mulpitple purposes - so there are multiple forms (e.g. memo's, reports, evaluations, etc.). Academic writing is usually about making a case and informing an audiance of an idea or process.

Most research (Academic ) is qualatative and most business research is quantatative. In School you are writing to convince the professor that you have mastered a subject. In business you write to inform or persuade others. Business or work writing is often shorter and to the point, with less argumentative fact backing it.
