The Soviet Union dissolved in 1991, and no Communism is a disgrace to human inteligence and self respect.

Communism may seem like a good ideal on paper but it isnt, you cant replace one dictatorship with another, a dictatorship of the proletariat is no better than one of the elite. Besides it isnt like the so called proletariat is really repressed if they desire change so badly they can achieve it. Marx apparently did not think that the permanent withering away of the state was such a good idea or he would not have broken away from the anarchists. Communism is all about centralization, proof of this is in the way Marx criticized the Paris Commune.

Honestly, no, it shoudl not have stayed Communist, but what happened shouldn't have happened.

The fall of the Soviet Union was quick and rapid, leaving many problems left to deal with. The collapse of a superpower needs to be gradual, as a sudden fall would only hurt the world. Many of the problems we have internationally today is somewhat due to such a quick fall of the Soviet Union and its Communist views.

Communism, on paper, is a very good system.
Democracy, on paper, is a very good system
Sadly when you put men in power whichever system is running gets totally abused by those in power. China is still communist but has added capitalism to the equation and will no doubt soon take over the rest of the world.

Moral: Those that seek power are the least worthy to wield it and the most likely to abuse it.

I agree with 99, the communist government in Russia was nothing but a facist dictatorship. Communism only works on a small scale.
