Yes, copyright infringement is a crime
1. It robs artists of their royalties
2. It decreases sales
3. It is against the terms of the buyers agreement , if you read carefully it says you will only use a CD or movie for personal use and that you may not reproduce it.

I agree that downloading games, software, music etc without the concent of the publisher is a copywrite violation. People are willing to rip off anyone in order to save a few bucks. My opinion is that if something is useful to you, pay the price for it or don't use it. The people that create the file that you are downloading put time, money and effort into it and should be rewarded.

Google for sparknotes and other online helps. I've managed to get through life without having to read it. I feel sorry for you. (There's lots of info online and at the public library.)
