As I have said before, many whites do not like American Blacks and West Indians in the UK, because they have fought the system, they are also not subservient, will speak out if they see something quite not right and are prepared to carry on fighting racism and discrimination. That is why both American Blacks and West Indians are scapegoated and picked on. White society also complain that, American Blacks and West Indians always claim welfare, lazy etc etc, but that is how Whites have set it up to be. Whites also seem to be in denial about how they treat American Black and West Indians, because it is a shameful history they have. So it easier to say "get over it" or "Oh you can't blame me for what a dead white man has done". Another thing is, If whites are really fed up with American Blacks and West Indians claiming welfare, then why don't you PAY substantial compensation for slavery, after all it makes sense and Whites would not have to worry about paying taxes out their salaries, but then again there is always some stupid excuse. It seems that what White people really want is for American Blacks and West Indians to be eradicated, because they don't seem to WANT affirmative action, they don't WANT to acknowlegde slavery, they don't WANT to pay proper compensation for slavery, they don't WANT black people to have good jobs, they don't WANT black people to have anything full stop. If Whites went through centuries of slavery and then decades of discrimination, as in being rewarded civil rights in the late 60's!!!!!!, they would not be so forgiving themselves and would create MARY HELL AND LOOSE, to get what they want, as they have done in the past. People have to remember that this society that we are living in today, is not built on goodness and light, it was built on BLOOD money, slavery and all other evils, so why are people questioning all the bad things that happen in society!!!!!!, put it right, by treating others right. Start by acknowlegding slavery, compensating desendants of slaves, because believe it or not slavery has been responsible for most of this racist crap that still goes on today. I am also not African American and I also admire American Blacks and West Indians, for coping with racism, discrimination and stereotypes that I think most other races could not do.

Have you ever been to America?
No one condones racism. Blacks were set free over 141 years ago.
More than 75% of all Americans have ancestors who immigrated to USA after the slaves were set free. So, most of us have no connection to the slave trade.
Immigrants come to America every day. Immigrants from China, India, Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador find jobs within one week and do very well in American society.
I bet you didn't know that but Blacks who move to USA from other countries do better than Blacks who were born here. Blacks from Africa who move here have a very strong work ethic and don't get into legal trouble.
But, American born Blacks are only 12% of the population but commit 80% of the nation's crimes.
The real question is why do American Blacks continue to cry racism while Asians, Latin Americans and Africans moved here in the last 20 years and are thriving?

One must recognize that the majority of White Americans are immigrants from the Post-Civil War waves of immigration (1870-1940) and have no connection to slavery at all. What these people all have in common are ancestors (from Ireland, Italy, Poland, Germany, etc.) who were all fleeing DISCRIMINATION, whether based on race or ethnicity. These people took the few pennies they had to their name, bought a ticket on a ship that sailed for seven to 10 days across an ocean, leaving behind the places they loved, all in HOPE OF OPPORTUNITY AND TO ESCAPE DISCRIMINATION.
Starting with pennies, through hard work and education, these people built amazing communities and thrived in the new world by basic fundamental community values of work and thrift.
***
On the other hand, we have black Americans, who were the victims of slavery and oppression. In 1865, they were living on plantations in the South. One day, a couple of guys in blue uniforms rode up, said, "Gather around you blackies! Abe Lincoln has declared you are free". These ex-slaves rejoiced and danced and said 'Yippie'. Then they went back and sat on the porch.
They've been sitting there ever since. for 165 years. Laws have been written forcing educational institutions to allow them in with lowered grades and standards. Laws have been written forcing businesses to hire them with lowered standards. Laws have been written giving them special privilege based on their skin color so they can't be threatened or intimidated. They have a murder rate 18x higher than any other group. 13% of the country, they are 60% of the abortions. 13% of the country they account for half the criminality.
Meanwhile, they have become the richest black people on the planet (by themselves they would be the planet's fourth largest economy). Yet, they continue to complain constantly that they are an oppressed people.
The real question is, at what point should the rest of us just conclude, if you feel that oppressed and disenfranchised, why not just jump on a jet plane and fly to somewhere else in teh world where you can seek and achieve your ideal of happiness?

I am so tired of hearing black people whine and complain about how bad that they have it. Really and truly none of today's blacks have had it all that rough. Discrimination seems to be more of an issue for white people rather than blacks. Black kids with lower grades are more likely to get into a college than white kids with grades slightly higher because they are black. That is discrimination. I do believe in equal rights for blacks but I do not believe in special rights, and that my friend, is what many blacks expect. Also, if your ancestors were so humiliated and tortured, then why was it that many chose to stay with their masters after they were completely free. Why did they choose to fight along with them? And as far as so many of them being over here b/c of us, is it not far better over here than it is over there in countries where 1 out of 4 is infected with AIDS? I do believe so. If they have such a problem with all of the "injustices" placed upon them here, then let them go back to their motherland!!!!

I'm white but I really honestly cannot answer you. Even though I am white, I've never had these feelings towards blacks so I cannot honestly answer why whites hate blacks or African Americans so much. I have always believed that we are all equal. I have always thought of it this way, I could've been born any race...it wasn't my choice to be born white. So, I treat all people with the respect they deserve. If I don't like someone, it's because I don't like that person for what they stand for or who they are but NEVER because of skin color.

people come on get over it now. unfortunately there will always be stupid (redneck) people that are racist and still living like it was 100yrs ago. But there are just as many black racists as there are white in todays world.
I think that one reason why blacks get a bad wrap here in america is bc of the overwhelmingly large crime rate and poverty in their community. That is not a racist comment...im just stating why some people may have contempt for the group.
No one should be treated badly bc of the color of their skin. Unfortunately when there is a large marjority of one group creating chaos then the whole group is lumped together with a negative vibe. Just like with the Muslim group. Not all muslims are terrorist but now people only think negative things when they hear the word Muslim. Sad yes.
Im sorry please tell me why again all white people should feel remorsefull about something that happened so long ago (that they didnt committ)? I am not going to sit here and kiss as* bc of something some white person did so long ago that has nothing to do with me. They arent my ancestors just bc im white doesnt mean that they are even ancestors of mine. I am not enslaving anyone today am i so why would i sit there and dwell on this crap?
Just live in 2006 and be happy. Quit dwelling on things.

I totaly feel what you're saying. I think the reason why Africans were a more common slave because explorers would come to Africa and see the harmony the tribes lived in. When African tribes had wars, it was more like football and cheerleaders instead of war. No one died. When explorers went to Egypt, they saw the tall pyramids and the math and science and astronomy.
Just like the Native Americans.

Keeping things in perspective, let us remember that the Africans that did participate in trade, did it because they cut deals in order to not be taken away themselves! It wasn't out of greed, it was self preservation.
They did not go out to the Europeans & offer them slaves! They were forced into it. And of course they later were betrayed by the whites that offered them the bargain and they became slaves anyway after they were used.

PBS has a great documentary about slavery in America called "Slavery and the Making of America". Look, in Africa my black as.s could escape...in America, my black as.s meant SLAVE and even black people BORN free in America could be kidnapped into slavery w/o recourse.
Chile, I wish I could answer you. It occured after the end of slavery when the south started terrorizing blacks and the north would only consider them when there were no white people to turn to (job wise).
When black men started talking about a movement to go back to Africa the klan bombed, lynched, and terrorized them. AND new immigrants to USA if they were white had more rights than blacks who's family came over in 1598.
AND now that we have become the begger people of America through no jobs, welfare, the projects and slum areas, crack, and teenage pregnancy they feel justified in hating us.
Well, I guess its easy, like believing the terrorist hate us for our freedoms and not our foreign policy.
Don't even bother with it.
