Creativity does not need intelligence on a most basic level, however, intelligence is a capacity and function for understanding and relating to the world around us. So I believe that intelligence can enhance the creative mind, opening up new avenues that might otherwise be undiscovered.
The act of creativity is performed on all levels of human existence from the earliest years, but that combined with intelligence is what allows the creation of masterpieces and the "higher arts".
So possibly view creativity as the rowboat and intelligence as the oar.

Creativity and intelligence have no connection. There are people that are mentally retarted but can play the piano without a second thought. Most people who are extremely intelligent are very logical thinkers and to be creative you have to think outside of the box.

Uh… I think some people should recheck their history…
Leonardo da Vinci was quite famous in his time. He was commissioned to paint The Last Supper by Duke Ludovico Sforza which he was paid well for.
But to answer the question: Yes, I believe there is a direct correlation with intelligence and creativity.

Creative people seek original solutions to problems by using a variety of answers that they generate themselves or put together via other factors in connection.

they aren't in alot of cases.
in fact Leonardo DA Vinci who is now considered one of the best in both those categories was not considered creative in his life time ( he only ever sold one painting while he was alive believe it or not) and his genius was considered borderline heresy, so I think that there is a context to both parts of your statements.
I am not saying that in a few or even many cases they aren't linked but I dint think they are necessarily linked as it takes one to have the other sense.
