I just brought home a full breed poodle, 45days old. my Cat isnt very happy about it. I've owned her for 8 years. They grow at each other, the dog barks and the cat hisses. What can i do to help them atleast tolerate each other?

I'm sure that this is going ot be harder for your cat to come to terms with than your dog.. Puppies are naturally very inquisitive so they want to play play play,, where as a 8 year old cat may not be to open to sharing her place ecspecially with a dog. I dont know if your cat has ever been around dogs before and if the cat has not this will take a little longer for the introduction period.Usually they will work this out on their own but I would make sure that they are supervised because a cat can hurt a puppy very badly , good luck and dont give up this should probably only take some patience and before you know it they will both be best friends

hiya, had the same problem, introducing my dog to my cat!!! and i made a big mistake.
I told my cat off for hissing and pawing the dog, so now my poor cat after a year is only gaining the confidence to take on the dog when the dog is bothering her.
I suggest you let them get on with it, oviously during the first few weeks supervise them to make sure they dont do any damage to each other and soon they will grow friends. Even then if they don't the cat will just let the pup know whos boss, so the dog will leave the cat alone and the cat will just get on with what she was doing before. Good luck.

The cat feels like there's an invader in her home.

The dog is probably just being yappy and playful since that's a bit young to be showing real aggression.

If at all possible, put your new poodle in a dog kennel somewhere where your cat will be able to keep her out. It will help since the cat will soon realize she's safe on the outside.

I have had cats and dogs in the same house and If they are raised together they will be okay. Your cat is probably not to thrilled so give it attention and let the puppy know messin with the cat is not tolertaed. They may become friends. Good luck.

keep them aside for a week, allowing them in problem-free words to be certain one yet another from a distance, like in the back of a balcony door. good the following week, enable them to sniff one yet another's stuff, at the same time as the different one isn't there. Or your fingers once you've touched the different. The third week enable them to sniff one yet another some circumstances on a daily basis, yet at the same time as preserving them. in spite of everything the hissing and anger has stopped, enable them close to at least one yet another, lower than supervision. attempt this once you feed them, so as that they both associate assembly with nutrients, an excellent element. purely be certain they don't quarrel over the nutrients, feed them each and each and every their own universal. The cat ought to ought to conquer the puppy up, yet purely be certain there are not any injuries. After about a month they'll stumble on the thanks to get alongside, with any luck.

well, i say to try and get them to play with each other. in fact, i was watching America's Funniest Home Videos and there was this cat and dog that were fighting and someone told them to kiss and make up, and the dog started licking the cat. the cat seemed to like it. try it, it might work. good luck.
