The ownership. As I recall, this team has been a train wreck since George Allen died.
The Detroit Lions have changed everything about the team since the 1950's but one thing -- the owner. The Lions have never come close to a Superbowl.
Even if the ownership is right, and the front office is good, and the coaching staff is in place, it still takes 2-3 years for a team to gel.
Worse yet, the 'skins have been hit by injures in unusually high numbers?

Daniel Snyder.
Don't get me wrong, having an owner willing to spend is a good thing. But they are throwing money at the wrong pieces. Look how much money they dumped on guys like A. Randle-El and T.J. Duckett.
It's hard to say how much influence he has on player personnel decsions, but they are choosing and overpaying the wrong guys.
The Clinton Portis deal was a killer. Champ Bailey is one of a precious few shutdown corners. Portis is good, a bit fragile, but not the bulldozer RB Gibbs used to like. He was more a product of Denver's system.
