A regular light cycle is important but not crucial. I mean, don't leave it on for 30 hours then leave it off for three days, but you can just turn it on when you get up and turn it off at night, it doesn't have to be exact. However, you can spend a whole 5$ on an electric timer. Set it and forget it :)
Feed your cichlids twice a day, what they can eat in 2 minutes. Cichlids are messy eaters so it's best to feed a little bit, let them eat it all (including chunks that may sink to the bottom) then offer a little more.

What kind of ciclids do you have? You should feed them twice a day. When you get up in the morning you should turn the light on then within an hour or so you should feed them. Try Ciclid pellets they have different sizes for different size fish. you can also do flakes so they have some veriaty. then at night you should feed them again i use freesed dryed Krill at this time. you can also use brine shrimp. but the flakes and pellets are also good to use. then when you go to bed for the night you should turn the light back off. for more information go to www.aquariacentral.com regestar for the sight its free and when it asks who recomended you put fish_freak {thats my hubbys web sight} good luck and happy holidays

I would feed them every 12 to 24 hrs.
I have a couple tanks with auto feeders that drop every 12 hrs. These are the easiest and can be picked up at a pet store like Petco or Petsmart, or even Walmart.
Light cycle not important if in a well lit room. I try to turn them on every couple days for a few hrs.
Cichlids can be pretty low maintence. Get very aggressive if have babies though. Will eventually kill everything else in tank if not enough room.

feed a little about every 2 days you can feed once daily but most people over feed and the every other day helps balance this. Regular light is great, on in day off at night not on more than 9 hrs daily.

I had some Ciclids that I fed weekly weather they were hungry or not and they did fine. If you over feed you will get bacteria in the tank

I feed fresh water fish once or twice a day. If you skip a day, they do fine. Fish tend to thrive with a regular light cycle.Happy holiday.
