the earbuds that come with any iPod aren't adjustable-however, you can buy accessories for them (like Griffin's EarJams) that make them adjustable. Keep in mind that the headphones from Apple are designed to sit in your outer ear, not form a seal in you inner ear. If you want that, you would be best off to buy after market headphones, or possibly invest in the Apple InEar headphones (although I personally have found them less than reliable and very finicky). There are earbuds out there that range from $1.50 a pair to over $800. So you have no shortage of options-don't let the headphones question keep you from buying a nano. Despite the haters, it is a very well designed and reliable player.

Mine didn't fit right in my ears -- they were uncomfortable -- so I went with Sennheiser noise-cancelling headphones instead.
But if you need better earbuds, probably the best ones out there now are the Shure E4C's. They are not cheap, but sound incredible.

you can get foam pads for them, and you can also try them on at the store. Other kinds of headphones can be purchased as well, after you by the ipod.
