When a Chinese child loses a baby tooth, it doesn't get tucked under the pillow for the tooth fairy. The Chinese smoke a lot, hawk and spit a lot (perhaps there's a connection), more or less invented glazed pottery, gave gunpowder to the world, developed and practise Chinese medicine (which may have a lot to teach us occidentals), and established a nation while the rest of the world was scratching about in the dirt. Gambling is an addiction for many more Chinese than for any other ethnic group - they set great store by luck.

One thing I have found to admire is that, in the commercial sense, a deal is a deal, and that once a deal is done, the fact that it hasn't been recorded on a piece of paper doesn't matter. People once said "An Englishman's word is his bond." Well, maybe that was true once, but from my experience I should rather rely on a Chinaman/woman's word.

One abiding memory of China is a couple of guys by the roadside, with a washing-up bowl in which they were skinning a dead dog. Well, don't knock it - protein can be hard to find in a poor area, and if you aren't a vegetarian, a dead animal to eat is just a dead animal to eat.

Sooner or later the Chinese will rise up and crush the American tyrant for being the beast it is , and then you will all live in America town. Bush is a madman and the voters who keep him there need educated about the rest of the world and the damage you Americans are doing to it. As the biggest world polluters Oil is at the root of every American war of recent times , first only to being racist , greedy and world dominating . If the Iraq population was being maltreated by Saddam , that's nothing to the poverty and starvation you idiots have foisted on them , no work , jobs money or food supplies .......WELL DONE AMERICA .... Don't make me laugh , more like I'm being sick at the vulgar attitude of a supposed great nation.

The first Ch'in emperor, in 221 BC, was Ch'in Shih Huang Ti.

I just wanted to correct Jessica's trivia fact. She said that people are allowed to kill baby girls in China so they could have more boys. This is not true. Boys are valued more in China because they represent an heir to the family name, but they will have girls too. They are also encouraging people to have more girls now because there's not enough. Also, if you have two kids, they USED to fine you but NEVER make you kill them.
