The price does not seem to be out of line, but I would recommend you have the work done by a qualified mechanic, rather than a chain store. While pep boys may have a good mechanic or two, the better mechanics usually will not be found working in places like that.
Find a good independent repair facility, and have your work done there.

I have a 96 Honda Civic and it cost me at least that much (a couple of years ago), to get my timing belt changed. Your price sounds about right. I'm certainly not an expert, but I know for a fact that you need to have it done at about every 100,000km and if it breaks, you're in big trouble $$$$.

It should cost around $250 give or take $50. That is what I had to pay here in Los Angeles.

thats about right but if this is the second time to change it i would also do the waterpump, idler pullys,and tensoner. labor will not be much more and any of them fail its does the same as if the timing belt breaks
