1. A gnawing distress arising from a sense of guilt for past wrongs; self-reproach.
2. sympathetic sorrow; compassion
These are the two major definitions given by Webster's Dictionary. Usually, remorse carries the first meaning, when someone recognizes that he/she has done wrong, whether toward God or to another person or group, and they have a deep sense of guilt.
Remorse, itself, is valuable, only when connected with a willingness to attempt to undo the wrong. But the term "remorse" does not necessitate that one try to undo the past.

Remorse is an emotional expression of personal regret -- that is, the emotion felt by the injurer after he or she has injured. Remorse is closely allied to guilt. Ex. The boy felt much remorse after hitting the old lady. The idea of remorse is used in restorative justice.

remorse is the bad feeling you get when you do something on the spur of the moment then think about it later and feel you have done wrong
i.e. u may have an argument with someone and say something bad that really upsets them.. then when u calm down later you wish u hadn't said what u said..especially if the conciquences lead to that person killing themselves or something... bit extreme but u get the picture /

Going out on a Friday; spending $20,000.00 (on credit) you don't have on a Car you don't need. Waking up Saturday morning with a "what the Heck did I do?" feeling inside. That's Buyer's remorse.
