I bought a cr125 a year ago for $800 and it was a GREAT deal. Go with the two stroke - they are faster, rev higher and are cheaper & easier to fix. Go with the 4 stroke if you are a hippie democrat who worries about global warming.

If you are not motocross racing, and can put your feet down when mounted, then the wr450 will be a great bike. It is significantly more powerful (especially the torque in the lower rpm range), and definitely faster overall (if this matters to you). If you are very small, then stay away from the big 450.
If you are motocross racing, an $800 cr125 will probably not be competitive w/o a lot of work (and money), unless you are buying a newer one from someone who doesn't know what they have. I would look for a comparably priced (to the wr450) 125 or 250cc 2-stroker (depending on the class you wish to enter).

Depends on:
1. Model year. If it's a 79 CR125, and a 2006 WR450 -- I'd go for the WR.
2. Run time and condition of the machine. Low hours wins in my book. If it's a non-running clapped out piece for $800 it's no bargain.
3. What type of riding you're doing. MX racing, I'd go for the CR, Trail riding with the kids, the WR all the way.
4. Your size. Over 200 lbs, the 450 is your only choice.
