There are a miriage of so-called breastfeeding friendly book out there. From an experienced breastfeeding mother of 3, here are my recc's:

-Dr.Jack Newmans Guide to Breastfeeding
-La Leche League's Womanly Art of Breastfeeding
-Dr.Sears, The Baby Book or The Breastfeeding Book and Nighttime Parenting...all by Dr.Sears

I mean, if you're looking for a book that will actually encourage breastfeeding and not hinder it, I STRONGLY suggest you avoid the "Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy", any of the "What to Expect Books" or anything by Dr.Spock.
The above books that I recommended have been tried and true for me and withold invaluable information and support. I promise you'll get your money's worth out of those!

What to expect while youre expecting!!! It is awesome. Very informative. It has a million things in it, like exactly what you are asking. It talks about the growing baby stage by stage, body changes, and goes into the new little life being born and into the first few months. It has tips on must have items for baby, what to take to the hospital...it is wonderful. There is also what to expect books for toddler, which i currently have as well, and its just as great. Good luck!

I think you already said it...get the :

"what to expect when expecting" book
and then the
"what to expect the first year" book.

gives the month by month description to what baby should be accomplishing...what he might accomplish and what possibliy he could accomplish at each month interval. Also it gives information about mommy after birth and what to expect.

Breasts do engorge 2-3 day s after birth...Mine were HUGE but it didnt hurt! I breastfed and I think that helped. So...BREATFEED ITS MAGICAL!!! my son is 5 and a half months i still breastfeed. We're so connected I might breastfeed until he's out of college! lol

For questions reguarding your baby I have 3 suggestions. I didn't find out about them until my son was 4 months and I wish I knew about them earlier.

"Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How to calm, communicate and connect with your baby" by Tracy Hogg with Melinda Blau and the follow up witch goes into more detail of the techniques in the first book:
"The baby whisperer solves all your problems: By teaching you to ask the right questions" by the same authors.

The author was a professional nanny for many years and shares her secrets.

The Third book is "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child", By doctor Marc Weissbluth.

"The pregnancy bible"
This book has not only what your unborn fetus looks like week by week but also how your body is changing and how you may be feeling.. This book also has what you are going to want to know about labour, delivery, new born basics, what to do if something goes wrong, etc.. It is awesome and has helped me with any questions that I had :)

"What to expect when your expecting" this was a holy grail for me when I was pregnant. Also their is "What to expect the first year" Just remember that raising kids isn't a school subject... do what feels right for you! Oh.... by the way... your breasts WILL get engorged and it will hurt like heck, BUT seriously cabbage leaves and Ice packs do wonders. YOU can always come here and get LOTS of advice too!

I prefer Dr. Sears books over the What to Expect Series, but I bought them both.

Dr. Sears also has a Breastfeeding book that I highly recommend if you bf.

For you:

The What to Expect Pregnancy Journal & Organizer by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel

Lots of great information and allows you to enter your thoughts and feelings as pass by milestones.

For him:

The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips and Advice for Dads-to-Be, Second Edition by Armin A. Brott

I read this and it really prepared me for what my wife was going through and what I was feeling at the time.

"What to expect when you're expecting," by Murkoff, Eisenberg and Hathaway.

This book has everything from the planning stage to postpartum. It has a clear, comprehensive month-by-month format. It answers tons of questions inside. It got over eleven top reviews from doctors and psychologists. Over 12 million copies were sold and even my mom read it. i would recommend it to anyone.

As you use "mom", I would guess you are American. In the UK we have an organisation called the "National Childbirth Trust". It is run by mums for mums. They have branches around the country.

If you can find something similar, try joining it, at least you will have other people to talk to in a similar situation. They also organise social events (just mums, mums and babies, just dads), nearly new sales and things like that.
