is it. {x|x is a real number and x does not equal 6, x does not equal -6| ? Or did I mess upsomewhere?

So you want to find where the values are defined for

(x^2 - 35) / (x^2 + 9x + 14)

One thing to note for fractions is that they are undefined when the denominator is equal to 0 (since anything over 0 is undefined). Thus, what you have to do is try to make the denominator 0 to see what x CAN'T be.

i.e. solve

x^2 + 9x + 14 = 0

This actually factors nicely.

(x + 7)(x + 2) = 0
Therefore, x = -7, -2

Now we know what x CAN'T be, so everything will be where the expression is undefined.

The answer you're looking for is "The set of all x where x is a real number, and x does not equal -7 and x does not equal -2". Or

{x| x != -2,-7 for all real numbers x}

( "!=" is my way of saying "not equal to". What you would do is put an equal sign with a slash over it).

The expression will be undefined if the denominator equals 0, that can take position if (9x - 6) = 0 and if (7x - a million) = 0, so sparkling up for x in those: 9x - 6 = 0 9x = 6 x = 2/3 7x - a million = 0 7x = a million x = a million/7 answer: The expression will be undefined if the fee x is two/3 or a million/7

You need to use parenthesis. Did you mean:

(x² - 35) / (x² + 9x + 14)

?

If so, then the answer is undefined when the denominator = 0.
x² + 9x + 14 = 0
(x + 2)(x + 7) = 0
x = -2 or -7

The answer is valid for all real numbers except x = -2 or -7.

If your asking for the defined values, than the answer would be all number EXCEPT {-7,-2} because if you go through factoring the denominator to 0, you get x=-7 and x=-2, because you divide by zero. If your asking for the undefined value, then its -7 and -2

x^2-35/x^2+9x+17
x^2-35/(x+7)(x+2)
it si defined for all values except x=-2 or x=-7
