The Capulets and the Montagues are involved in a family fued (originating over money and land, which eventually led to bloodshed) and have been for years. It is a well known fued, and bad blood still runs (hence the Prince's knowledge of the problem).

There is no familial connection. Romeo's invitation to the party comes through Mercutio (who is kin to the Prince, not the Montagues or Capulets). There is brief mention of Romeo's "cousin" - but that term is used to refer to close friends not actual cousins as we know them.

Hope that helps!

There is a feud between them. They are equal in stature, there had to be a disagreement of some type. They may have been related in some way as Romeos cousin had an invitation to the party which means he was connected to Juliets family as well. They share a town, friends, church and at the end a funeral.

There is a connection or a common relative but there's no chemistry between them!
