I wish I had been able to take more time. I work from home. I had a c-section and was at the dining room table working on the computer after 1 week. I recommend taking as much time as possible.

I checked myself out of the hospital 2 hrs after delivery and went home to take care of my other 2 kids. As long as you have a healthy delivery and u didnt hemorrhage or have a C section or something there's no reason not to. On the other hand, if I was filthy rich I would prolly hire people to do everything for me and stay in bed with the baby for a week.

When we came home from the hospital, I had another 8 yr old to take care of. I certainly didn't just sit around all day. I did do some house work, but I also took time to nap, hold my new baby, just plain take time for myself. There is always a happy medium to spend time with your new baby and do some of the household chores. You just have to find what works for you.

With my first I opted for baby in the room with me from moment 1 I didn't get any sleep and was a wreck when discharged.... With my 2nd he immediately enteren neonatal ICU and I was placed on heavy meds forcing me to sleep for 24 hours due to a small nervous breakdown in reaction to his health problems...(There is something very stressful about watching a helicopter land at the hospital he was born in, take off with him and still be in view as it landed at the specialized childrens hospital they took him to... It was 3 am and there was no triffic but the helicopter was the option because he was in that much trouble)..... The next thing I remember is screamig and feeling like I couldn't stop then a poke in the arm and 24 hours later waking up to see my older brother asleep on a chair next to my bed... He was there because my husband and parents were at the other hospital with my son and they wanted me to wake and not be alone...

By the third I had a plan that worked wonderfully, after delivery and a short visit with my older children (they wanted to see the baby asap) while still in the hospital I utilized the nursery getting a good nights sleep my daughter was bottle fed so I told the nursing staff I wanted to sleep they were in charge of feeding for the first night (I knew by then I would have many sleepless nights in my future got a good nights sleep while I could) .... Including getting a shower and having breakfast in the morning before calling to get my daughter back.... She was bottle fed so it wasn't a problem... When I got home my husband had a week off to help out, his grandmother and mother also stopped in several times a day with words like "There is no need to for you to sit awake and watch her breath, I will do that you have a nap."

I did most things after a few days but will always be greatful to everyone who was willing to sit up and watch her breath so I could sleep without worry... They also were always willing to do a few dishes or vaccuum a floor if it was needed...

REST???? What is that? LMAO

I run an in-home daycare in addition to caring for my own kids so when my daughter was born in August via c-section, my mother took care of my 3 year old son and the 4 other kids in my daycare for 1 week (while I had the baby) and then once my one week of "maternity leave" was up I was back to taking care of 5 preschoolers and the new baby and all the cleaning that goes along with it. PHEW is that exhausting.

I was in on anti-seizure medication for 24 hours after delivery. Then in bed for another 24 hours under observation due to severe preeclampsia BP 166/111. I went for a DR. appointment @ my 36 week and was diagnosed and they induced me 30 minutes later...thankfully i had natural birth with epidural. When I got home I was in bed for pretty much the first week. Although the day after we came home i went with my husband to the baby's appointment...i thought i was going to pass out. I was on blood pressure medication for 2 and a half weeks after delivery so i took it slow...I didn't even feel comfortable carrying my son from room to room for 2 weeks thinking i might fall, I was so weak.

My In laws came down and did everything for us for a month...I barely had to do anything but breastfeed baby...and of course the day after they leave we take baby in for a sick visit and he's got RSV!

Yeah right! I couldn't help but continue doing the chores. Actually, if you have a perfect partner, then I guess it could be possible. Mine, not so perfect. I did all the same house work and then woke up with the baby to breastfeed.

I had a c-section so really needed the rest and I could not get around easily to do chores.Thankfully my hubby, mom and mother-in-law helped me out alot and I was able to nap when baby napped-and sometimes even when he didn't.
