I want to make a paper lamp shade using a nautical map. (We have one but it's all ripped up!) Anyone out there ever made a paper lampshade? I know there are kits, etc available. Does anyone out there have any advice or opinions for me on this? Any special type of kit better than others? (Or should I avoid kits?) Thanks for your help!

You could also buy a used or new paper shade and paint or stain it and decoupage the map either as is in bits or tear it into interesting rips and apply in places or all over. add nautical ribbon around top and bottom of shade..if you could do a lamp base of brass or a piece of drift wood it would look very nice.

I made a lampshade from a used frame and I wrapped it with some beige paper and then I decoupaged my pattern to the lampshade..I have some websites to help you with decoupage technique(its easier to do then it is to spell LOL) Unless your map is shredded I am sure that you can salvage it therefore giving your lampshade a unique design. If you have a lamp already picked out you could use the shade that it already has..If you are going to use that shade decide if you like the lampshade or just the design/overall frame of the lamp. If you do not like the material the lampshade is made of then you can cut it away from the frame and using a hot glue gun you can attach a differnt paper or fabric to te frame. Once your satisfied with the background then you need to decide how you would like the map to be displayed. I hope that wasn't too confusing. basically thats it though. You can buy mod podge(its great for decoupage)

I hope that helped. the link is below.I am not 100% sure if these sites will help you or not..but good luck
