If you do, does thinking about them make you smile, just cuz you are happy you got to know them or does it make you kind of sad bcuz you wish you could still see them? Or maybe a bit of both?

Both, but the sad part lingers because of the loss of what might have been. We both kind of messed it up at different points. If I had met him later in life I would have married him, but I was young and foolish.
Then again, when I did run into him a few years after, he was mean and cynical. I do think about him - I hope he has gone back to being the wonderful man I loved rather than the bitter a**hole that I met the last time.
Life is all about timing, isn't it?

Everything happens for a reason and they got away for a reason but it's nice to think back because it does make you smile and a little part of you wishes you could see them once more, but it's best to just keep it in "your special thoughts".

At first it makes me smile, and then I kind of get a little upset. But sometimes that's a blessing in disguise. Hard to say if it could have been any better if things went the other way.

just to reminise, really. we were each other's first loves, it was the classic highschool sweetheart thing. but he was 2 years older than me, so after he graduated and went to college, i was still in highschool, so that gap caused a lot of problems for us, and we eventually broke up. from there our lives took different directions, he got a degree in computer engineering and became very career driven, and i had children and became a family driven person. i look back on our time together as a learning experience, i'm a better person because of it.

A little bit of both...I would miss them a lot and wanna see them again and maybe things would have been different if they had never gone...I would be happy that i did know them atleast!

I only had one that got away and I do reflect on him every now and again. But I wound up with a great guy so at the end of the day, it doesn't matter too much to me now. He was hot though!

Oh yes. It usually makes me happy to think about him. I see how much I've grown since then & I now realize that everything happens for a reason.

Definately both. You should never cry because it is over, you should be glad that it happened. I am so happy that it turned out the way it did because my husband is amazing and I love him very much.
